I attended an interview a couple of days ago. What was special about it is the fact that the other candidates were between 20 and 30 years of age.  The interview was for a Para Taxonomist. i.e. Systemic classification of animals and Plants (Because I am a Zoologist basically) training session  for 4 months.  I was one among 10 people selected from a group of 60. This free training, including room and board was a program by the Zoological Survey of India, a department of the Central Government of India. I withdrew because the Director discouraged me. At my age, frequent visits to Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks to survey animals would have been tedious. Their opinion was the it would be best to avoid such travel, and I had to agree with them. There was also the problem of being away from my wife.

While I was taking the test, a pretty 25 years old girl sitting next to me was laughing at me.  When I saw this I said to her “When I was 16, I appeared for my S.S.L.C exam, and there was a greying 60 year old man next to me appearing for the same exam.  I had laughed at him then and this is my punishment for that!
